Lifton THE 8 CRITERIA
Control of communication. The group decides who they communicate and relate to the adepts, and limits his sources of information.
Artificial mysticism. Candles, incense, prayers or mantras, music and other elements are used to create a "special."
Vocabulary. Fosters a sense of belonging.
Primacy of the doctrine of the person. The provisions adopted are more important than the experience of each individual in his understanding of the sect.
Infallibility dogma. The word of the leaders are sacred because they come from the divinity.
Public confessions. Establish bonds of complicity between members of the sect.
Unattainable demands purity. Cause in the ongoing sectarian shame and guilt, which makes them more susceptible to being manipulated
Power over life. The cult decides who has the right to live and who not, and even who would be saved or not in the afterlife, based on adherence to group norms.

Control de la comunicación. El grupo decide con quiénes se comunican y relacionan los adeptos, y limita sus fuentes de información.
Misticismo artificial. Velas, incienso, rezos o mantras, música y otros elementos son usados para crear un ambiente "especial".
Vocabulario propio. Fomenta la sensación de pertenencia.
Primacía de la doctrina sobre la persona. Los preceptos dictados son más importantes que la experiencia de cada individuo en su comprensión de la secta.
Infalibilidad del dogma. La palabra de los líderes son sagradas, pues provienen de la divinidad.
Confesiones públicas. Establecen lazos de complicidad entre los miembros de la secta.
Demandas inalcanzables de pureza. Provocan en los sectarios vergüenza y culpa constantes, que los vuelven más susceptibles de ser manipulados
Poder sobre la vida. La secta decide quién tiene derecho a vivir y quién no y aun quién se salvará o no en el más allá, según su adherencia a las normas del grupo.
